Eyelid Surgery - Before and After Photos

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery operated on the eyelid, that’s why generally it is simply called as the eyelid surgery. It is conducted, when a patient wants to improve the upper or lower lids in order to look younger, or to make the eyes seem bigger. Obviously, mostly female patients undergo this kind of cosmetic surgery in a search for a more beautiful appearance. When a person gets older, the face is a part of the body that shows a person’s age better than any other. And eyelids are one of the best indicators, too.

Different eyes — different surgeries

People have different structures of their eyes and lids. This means that skin under the eyes may be rather “baggy”, while other people may not have this problem. Pastic surgeons always say that it is individual. There can be certain problems with the upper eyelid, too. Some people have drooping eyelashes, so this treatment is necessary as it will improve the vision. It means that blepharoplasty will bring not only a certain cosmetic effect, but may be caused by some absolutely obvious problems (ptosis, or drooping lid). Though, eyelid plastic surgery is not universal and can’t fight with an imperfect shape of eyebrows and wrinkles. Generally, other surgeries like facelift and brow lift are conducted in complex with the blepharoplasty.

Today this kind of plastic surgery is extremely popular in Asia for the national peculiarities of the eyelid structure that the Asians have. Asian blepharoplasty is also known as “double eyelid surgery”.

Imperfections that can be removed with the help of the procedure are best seen on the before and after eyelid surgery photos that anyone can upload here. Some people have extra fat on the upper eyelid or folds that are a result of sagged skin. So called “Asian eyes” can also be improved with the treatment, when the area of operation will be on the lower eyelid.

Surgery and Rehabilitation

The procedure of the surgery is standard. The incisions are made on the upper eyelid having the same shape. A surgeon will remove extra fat, skin or muscle. This surgery generally needs only local anesthesia. But general anesthesia is also used, so you may previously discuss this aspect with a plastic surgeon.

A patient may need about a couple of weeks for the process of rehabilitation. The face will get swollen for the first days, but this process may be moderated with special medicine, which your doctor will prescribe you. Sometimes patients are advised to wear sunglasses to provide protection from the sun and wind.
