Before and After Gynecomastia

Abnormal Development of Male Breasts

This word of the Greek origin basically means large sizes of men’s breasts and a kind of treatment related to this problem. Men prefer not to talk about this problem because very often they get ashamed, but, nevertheless, gynecomastia is not something that happens once in a century. The cause of this abnormal development of male breasts may lay in some health problems and even specific types of medications. Gynecomastia may be a result of excess deposits of the fat in the breasts. But this problem can be treated.

Who May Have This Disorder

The Greek origin of the term shows that men begin to look like women with the overdeveloped breasts. The signs of this disorder may be seen even in the early years. Statistics shows that as many as 40 per cent of gynecomastia cases happen when boys are only 14-16 years old. But it doesn’t mean that this problem remains for the rest of their lives. It’s just a sign of their growing and hormonal splashes. Nine out of every ten boys with this disorder will naturally get rid of it in a couple of years. Adult men acquire this disorder, and the percentage of men with gynecomastia grows as they get older. It reaches more than 60 per cent after a man gets seventy years old.

Being a disorder gynecomastia also brings some emotional discomfort and shame for its owners. Sometimes men avoid going to the beach or just showing their breasts because other people can see them. Very often even clothes can’t hide their overdevelopment.

Plastic Surgical Corrections

But there is no need to worry because the process of gynecomastia can be corrected; it can be proved by before and after pictures of this treatment. There is a surgical way of getting rid of this disorder. Plastic surgeons call it the reduction mammaplasty. The procedure is aimed to flatten the overdeveloped breasts and enhance the contours of the whole chest.

A surgeon will select the best variant of anesthesia for a patient. It may be a general type or various seductive medications. If the reason of gynecomastia is obesity, a surgeon will remove extra fat and use liposuction. Excision will be performed in the places of removing the fat tissue and excess skin. If the place of the nipple is different and doesn’t look like the male one, this technique is also used in order to move it to a normal male contour. The incisions during this procedure are very accurate, and the process of recovery will be successful.
