Before And Laser Treatment

I've used Accutane. The only side-effect I had was dry lips. I even had undiagnosed depression at the time, and if anything my mood _improved_ while on Accutane because I was happy that my skin looked so much better.

Pretty much every medication you use comes with a very lengthy list of possible side-effects. While the possibilities should definitely be considered, you have to remember that the worst effects usually affect only a _very_ small proportion of users.

My husband suffered from serious acne on his back...acne so bad that it was like giant boils rather than pimples. What's so weird is that his face and chest were perfectly clear, and this horrible acne did not develop until his late 20's. His doctor prescribed Accutane and after several months the condition cleared. He still has a lot of scarring, but I can tell you that he is much happier now that the boils have gone. He is comfortable going to the pool/beach without a shirt, and his self-confidence has soared. But you do have to be careful with Accutane. It is a powerful drug and not to be taken lightly.

At 16 my son developed a sever case of acne. I had never had any issues with acne and I was surprised to see how cruel kids are to other kids. His self esteem went right out the window. After a series of a zillion other meds, cleansers (yes we even tried ProActive and many others) my son was placed on acutane. It was quite expensive and we finally had results, but 6 months after the regimen he started breaking out again. There are huge side effects with acutane. In fact it does state that if you became pregnant while using Acutane there is a 100% chance of birth defects. Of course this is reviewed with every patient and if sexually active precautions are a MUST!! I"m not saying not to use it....it was the only thing that helped even somewhat with my son, so I would do it again. My son is 19 now and laser resurfacing, peels, .....something....is going to be needed to help with the scarring. I am glad I have found some options for him. Good luck everyone.

Accutane -Kills- and the list of side-effects is lengthy and ridiculous to risk. I will never give my life to that crap.
And I'd like to say that the side effects are FAR worse than being ridiculed. If you find a good powder and concealer it does well enough for acne scarring, and some cystic. Also, if you have cystic acne like I do you might want to check and see if you have gluten sensitivity. I have recently found out that I do and eliminating gluten from my diet has reduced my cysts remarkably.
Don't even bother posting about accutane, people, this page is for laser resurfacing.

Accutane does have side-effects (in a small number of people), but those are no worse than being outcast or having people crack jokes about your face. Cleaners, creams and ointments - voodoo medicine, they don't work on serious (cystic) acne. Laser surfacing does reduce the effects of acne scars, but save that for after a solid treatment of accutane.

Accutane works better people! It's a wonderful thing. Save the laser resurfacing for the scars left behind after the Accutane has solved the acne problem.

Accutane has really bad side effects, such as seizures, hair loss, skin peeling, and in rare cases blindness. I wouldn't recommended drug treatment for acne. I think the best treatment is cleaners and creams and laser treatment in serve cases.
