Getting Rid of Fullness Under the Chin

Getting Rid of Fullness Under the Chin

Background: This 19 year old woman from Carmel came in with her mother to discuss recent changes in her profile. Although she hadn't gained weight, she had begun to develop fullness under her chin and losing some of the definition along her jawline. They asked Dr. Mabrie about options for liposuction of the neck.

Dr. Mabrie's Assessment: “While at first it appears the problem is fullness under the neck, I suggested to the family this young lady would benefit greatly from a chin augmentation, with only a small amount of fat removal under the neck. Because the chin is slightly small relative to the rest of the face, the cheeks appear full and the neck tissue isn't well supported. I think they were a little skeptical at first, but after looking at the possible surgical changes with computer imaging, they agreed to try the chin augmentation.”

Procedure: Chin augmentation with Extended Anatomical Chin Implant with post-operative Botox to Mentalis muscle and Dermafiller to chin.

3 Month Follow-up: “She had good surgical results however because of years of using her mentalis muscle (small muscle between bottom lip and chin) to help close her mouth, she continued to have a very active mentalis muscle after surgery. This muscle would bulk up and affected her result. We place 6 units of Botox in it and just a little Dermafiller to change very good surgical results to a very close approximation of the computer imaging goals we had set prior to surgery. There are times when non-invasive measures such as Botox and Dermafillers may be used in conjunction with surgery to get better results.”
